Vacation rental tips:
When to visit Elizabeth City & When to book:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Elizabeth City. Book your Elizabeth City rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your group commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Luxury condo with river views, private parking, and steps from Pailin's Alley has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Elizabeth City rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Advice for a great stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
