Strategies to get the perfect Elizabeth City vacation property experience:

When to book a Elizabeth City rental home & When to go:

  • In the Elizabeth City area, The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Summertime is high season in the Elizabeth City area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Elizabeth City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Elizabeth City area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Luxury condo with river views, private parking, and steps from Pailin's Alley has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a particular Elizabeth City destination you long to visit, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
