Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Get the best value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Elizabeth City. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to select the best vacation rental in Elizabeth City:
- First, have your group agree to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Luxury condo with river views, private parking, and steps from Pailin's Alley has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the host immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
