Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your Elizabeth City vacation in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Elizabeth City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Elizabeth City area visitors guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Elizabeth City visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Luxury condo with river views, private parking, and steps from Pailin's Alley has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Elizabeth City rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
