How to get the best Elizabeth City rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- In the Elizabeth City area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Book your rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Elizabeth City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Elizabeth City area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.

Tips to have a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
