Elizabeth City vacation rental home tips:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, shift your family's Elizabeth City vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Elizabeth City visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Comfort & Quiet in a Central location has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
