The Camden County School System serves approximately 1200 students on three campuses (a primary, middle, and high school). The schools encourage parental support and value community involvement, which along with a highly trained and dedicated staff, are the cornerstone of Camden's successful educational program. The Albemarle School is a private institution offering pre-school through 12th grade with an emphasis on scholastic excellence. There are also several Christian schools in the area. The College of the Albemarle is a public two-year community college which serves educational needs as diverse as the residents and businesses in the college's seven-county service area. North Carolina's first community college, it offers comprehensive quality college transfer, technical, and vocational programs. Elizabeth City State University is part of the University of North Carolina system. Its instructional programs are offered through thirteen academic departments, a general studies division, and a special programs office. The Graduate and Continuing Education Center offers master's level study through cooperative inter institutional arrangements; its Weekend College fills a gap for working students. Established in 1948, Roanoke Bible College is a four-year coeducational Christian college. Its mission is to prepare men and women for career and volunteer Christian service. Both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees as well as two-year degrees and one-year certificates are available. At Chowan College, students can choose from eighteen baccalaureate majors. The beautiful campus grounds include old oaks, white dogwoods, a lake, and historic buildings-truly one of the most attractive campuses in North Carolina. Founded in 1848, Chowan College is operated by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
